Global Workplace Writing Effectiveness
Effective written communication enhances productivity, promotes the accurate transfer of information, and supports the development of business relationships and collaboration. As global workplaces become more and more multicultural, many professionals benefit from learning techniques to develop and organize their writing to appeal to readers from multiple cultures at the same time. Writing as a professional competency includes considering how readers use grammatical and organizational cues to understand text, and learning to apply a global mindset to recognize and explain culturally-based language. By integrating thoughtful structure, precise grammar and clear and persuasive wording, the GSL Focus-On-Writing Learning System can help professionals develop the ability to use written communication strategically and productively in a global workplace context.
This GSL Learning System is designed for non-native and native English speakers who need to improve the clarity, accuracy and persuasiveness of their written communication. For non-native English speakers, cognitive English proficiency levels should be intermediate-mid and above on the TOEIC® or Independent User and above on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) scales.

Ask yourself these professional development questions:
- Do people frequently seem to misinterpret your written communication?
- Do you avoid writing because you do not know how to begin?
- Do you struggle to use grammar effectively to express your ideas?
- Is it difficult for you to synthesize your ideas in a clear format that others easily understand?
- Do people seem to misinterpret or respond inadequately to your written messages?
- Do complex written communication tasks seem to take an excessive amount of time?
- Do you feel uncertain when you have to communicate in writing to customers or management?
- Do you tend to rely on others to check your written documents before finalizing them?
- Do you try to emulate native English speaker colloquialisms and idiomatic expressions to convey your ideas?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you will benefit from the GSL Focus-On-Writing Learning System.
The courses in this GSL Learning System will review fundamental grammar and writing techniques, and introduce you to a writing process that will help you to develop clearer, more focused writing in a shorter amount of time. Through regular writing assignments, class discussions, analytical exercises and online practice (beyond class sessions), you will (1) practice grammar and writing techniques to express your ideas in an accurate and well-organized manner; (2) learn how to communicate your messages more clearly to engage colleagues, management and customers; (3) gain credibility and independence in writing by learning to recognize and correct your own errors. You will also learn how GSL English, a culturally-neutral communication tool, can help you communicate effectively in multiple-culture workplace environments, strengthen professional relationships and develop more opportunities for career growth.

The GSL Focus-On-Writing Learning System courses provide (1) a review of fundamental grammar and writing strategies; (2) practice using a writing process to develop clear, organized text; and (3) writing applications consistent with the communication needs of professionals in global workplace contexts. Through class discussions and analytical exercises, specialized scenario learning, and online practice (beyond class sessions), participants will:

- Present written ideas in a well-organized manner that engages colleagues and customers
- Use culturally-neutral GSL English as a tool to communicate more effectively with non-native and native speakers from different countries and cultures in workplace contexts
- Gain credibility and independence in writing by learning to recognize and correct their own errors.
The GSL Focus-On-Writing Learning System includes courses at two different levels of writing proficiency, and trains participants on how to improve their grammar and writing skill while applying culturally-neutral English to improve the clarity and efficacy of their communication in diverse workplace settings.
The GSL Focus-On-Writing Learning System is designed to meet the needs of non-native English speaking participants based on cognitive English proficiency and assessed skill levels, from intermediate through advanced. Whether Level 1, Level 1-Plus, or Level 2, participants will immediately be able to apply their new skills to their workplace writing. The -Plus course includes intensive training with verb usage to build participants' ability to produce accurate writing in past, present and future time frames, correctly use transitive and intransitive verbs, and appropriately incorporate grammatical modals to express possibility. By improving their writing effectiveness, participants strengthen their leadership skills, gain credibility and confidence, and bolster team productivity through more assertive and accurate communication.
Culturally-neutral English is integrated into all GSL Learning Systems. This leads participants to gain confidence while expressing themselves, and develop clarity and assertiveness in their interactions.
The Global Second Language® approach recognizes that non-native and native English speakers use English differently (generally, without realizing it). When people from different countries interact as part of job functions, this difference has consequences in professional and workplace communication contexts. Our approach integrates proven GSL® strategies and proprietary culturally-neutral English methodologies that improve all types of workplace communication (accent clarity, speaking and writing, listening and reading) in virtual as well as direct settings.
We use a proprietary method to identify the best program for our participants.
All programs begin with a certified cognitive workplace English proficiency test and the comprehensive GSL Focus-On-Writing Assessment. The TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test is used to confirm the level of English proficiency and identify grammar or vocabulary gaps. The GSL Focus-On-Writing Assessment measures all aspects of writing effectiveness, including organization, cohesiveness, grammar, vocabulary, voice and tone. Since non-native English speakers sometimes integrate culturally-based, idiomatic expressions learned from native English speakers, the use of culturally-based English is also evaluated to identify any adverse effect on reader comprehension.
We leverage our Global 2nd Language® proprietary technology
The Global 2nd Language® technology allows participants to practice 24 hours a day, any day of the week at their convenience. This technology is delivered through a secure platform, which functions as a means for participants to practice and receive instructor's responses between class sessions. Our technology allows instructors to add or modify exercises based upon participants' progress and fosters accelerated learning while strengthening skill retention and workplace application.
All GSL programs include support services
In addition to scheduled session class time, all GSL® programs include applicable G2nd Support Services at no additional fee. These services include:
- G2nd Support Team coordination of participant/instructor fieldwork review and response, scheduling management, technology training and support, and implementation of course-specific processes
- G2nd faculty preparation, fieldwork review and response between class sessions, and applicable communication between sessions
- G2nd representatives working with G2nd faculty to provide periodic assessment reviews and progress reports
